Alright fellas I got one for you.

I've got a Canister purge solenoid kicking my butt! Its in my old '95 150, I put a Ford crate 5 liter in it about 7 months ago. (bought the truck for 500 bucks, had a straight body but a blown up motor) Anyway... Check engine came on about 3 months ago, hooked the scanner up too it, had a TPS code and a purge solenoid code. Replaced them both with Ford parts. 3 days later the light came back on, scanned again and got the same purge solenoid code. I replaced the hoses and tried again. Same code 5 miles down the road. I noticed my buddies 96 Bronco had the line from the purge solenoid to the canister capped off, so I did. Same thing... I talked to our drivability guy and he was pretty much at a loss. So, I need your help. Truck is due in January for emissions, and its either figure it out now or drop a 12v Cummins that I've got laying around in it, and be done with it... haha. I haven't really had time to mess with it, the truck just sits in the barn, and I drive the Superduty everyday.

Thanks guys.

Re: Alright fellas I got one for you.

i had the same code appear for my 95 f150 with the inline six, after changing the canister and checking all the hoses had the same prob. i was informed by a friend to replace the gas cap and reset the code. the problem went away, was told that the old cap was venting off prematurely and giving the code. i hope this helps

That would have been my guess. After that, the integrity of the vent hoses. In sunny California they back pressure the tank to test this and it will fail you on the smog test. It"s the first test performed after the visual inspection. You know your correct Vac system layout is on the info sticker on the air filter housing. I'd reconnect the canister w/ solenoid. I'd bet your friend has his own personal error code sitting in his continuous memory.

Re: Alright fellas I got one for you.

I guess that makes some sense. I'll try the caps, would be a cheap fix. My buddies Bronco had no codes believe it or not. That Purge solenoid only looks for a certain amount of vacuum.
