Tachometer only works sometimes

I have a 99 firebird and the Tachometer only works 20% of the time. Sometimes it just comes on when I'm driving. Sometimes it comes on when I start the car. Oddly enough, it never goes off once it come on. Any Idea as to what this might be? Thanks

Re: Tachometer only works sometimes

just to give some more info on the problem. The tach gage is the only gage affected. All the other gages work fine. Also, when the tach gage comes on it works fine and gives accurate readings. Is there a way to check the connection to the fuse box?

Re: Tachometer only works sometimes

Well tonight i was driving along and my tach wasn't working as usual so I decided to tap on the tach lens cover and wa la. the tach meter started working. So I believe it must be the needle sticking at zero when the the car shuts off and not something electrical. I live near the ocean and the salty air gets into everything.
