Question 2000 Grand Am--blinker problem

At least once a day my blinkers do not work. Left or Right will not turn on. I found if I hit the HAZARD buttons on and off, then, turn on the blinkers...it works. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Turn signal/multi function switch. There are some here that have thoroughly cleaned them with electric contact cleaner with good results.
