my new car.

Hi there guys, just wanted to share my new grand marquis, its a 2000 gs only mods so far are a 75mm throtle body and k&n drop in. X pipe coming soon. I have also added a sound system, 2 12inch jh55 mtx jackhammers powered by a JL Audio J2500.1 mono amp. My question is does anybody know any crown vic/grand marquis bolt-ons that i can check out online? Thanks guys.

Re: my new car.

That looks very clean. Makes me want to wash and wax mine to get the shine back.

Anyway, I don't mean to bash the mods, but if you want some constructive criticism, read on.

The 75mm throttle body is actually holding you back. The air velocity is too slow when you go wide open throttle at low speeds (i.e. from a stop). You probably notice the bad "bogging" issue if you were to slam on the gas from a dead stop. The 70mm throttle body I have does, even. Steeper gears will help alleviate this. I also reduced the timing by 4 degrees below 2000 RPMs at WOT which also makes up for this decreased air velocity.

The K&N filters are okay. I would never run one because oiled type filters are known to gunk up the MAF with the oil. And the K&N filters only increase airflow by having larger holes - thus letting larger dirt particles through.

X-pipes are good for top end power but will decrease low end torque. H-pipe is the way to go. A custom mandrel bent 2.25" catback system with H-pipe is the most recommended size exhaust size for stock and mildly modified CVs/GMQs. Anything larger will once again decrease low end torque (same velocity issue as the intake).

Some other mods that really make a difference:
-Marauder airbox with 80mm MAF (requires tune)
-'04 CVPI Zip tube
-Blue Oval Chips computer tune
- Rear end gears (I actually have a set of 3.27s for sale in my sig) and Trac-Loc
- J-mod (improves shift firmness)
- PI intake manifold and cams (from any 2001+ GV/GM/TC)

There's plenty more depending on your budget and desires with it. If your budget is higher, you can even get a drop-in centrifugal supercharger kit or get a pair of Trick Flow heads and Stainless Works long tube headers or go with nitrous. Tons of options.

You might also want to do some suspension work. Stiffer sway bars and shocks can help improve handling.

Some additional information you might find useful is that the plastic intake manifold used on 98-01 model year panthers are prone to failure in the front coolant crossover area. Replacement is highly recommended before it fails and you overheat your engine. The timing chain tensioner arms are also prone to premature failure in 00-03 model years. To do the work on both of those jobs, with a few extra steps you can swap to the PI intake manifold and cams I listed above.

Re: my new car.

to be perfectly honest i have yet to install the 75mm body, i have it on order. i can cancel my order on summit if you have a good suggestion. One of the biggest things i would like to do asap is the exhaust seeing as my model has a y pipe to single and i can really tell its holding back alot of power. i assume by "pi" you mean police interceptor? thank you. thank you for the compliment on how clean she is,hahaha. one of the biggest factors in buying this car was of how good of shape it was in for being 10 years old. plus its only got a wee bit over 100,000 mi. on it. and for being a minnesota car it has zero rust.

Re: my new car.

I suggest you cancel the order. 75mm is for blown applications. 70mm is plenty, and still causes a slight loss in low end torque because of it's larger diameter causing reduced air velocity. I have the BBK 70mm throttle body, and to be honest, I wish I got the Ford Racing 70mm TB. The BBK one sticks when at closed throttle so when I try to give it just a bit of gas, I have to press it harder to get it unstuck and then it goes over where I want it. When driving in snow, this is very annoying when trying to keep some traction.

I suggest you start with the exhaust. That was my very first mod and made an improvement. Try to find a place that will custom bend a full cat-back H-pipe system for you. H-pipe sound better and improve low end torque which is what these cars really need. 2.25" mandrel bent pipes are the best for these cars mostly stock or lightly modified.

And gears will be one mod that will speed you up the quickest. You have 2.73 gears like I have. My dad's 99' CV with the Handling & Performance Package (HPP) has a faster takeoff because he has 3.27 gears. Those are what come standard on most year Police Interceptors. I'm going to Summit today to get a set of 3.55s for even more of an improvement. This does affect highway mileage, though. So be know what you're getting into. And if you want both wheels to put the power down instead of on wheel spin and the other sit there doing nothing, get a Trac-Loc. I got a used one out of a Mustang for $50 and got the carbon fiber rebuild kit which is used on the Cobra from Summit. You can go with regular clutches but they do not last as long for around $30 less.

Oh and PI does not mean Police Interceptor. CVPI means Crown Vic Police Interceptor. PI means Performance Improved. In 2001, the Panther platform got the PI engines which has improved heads, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold to increase horsepower by 20HP. You can take the engine out of a 2001+ car and drop it into your car without changing any wiring. You will have to use your original fuel injectors as different years have different sizes and connector types. For best results, a computer tune is recommended to optimize the performance from the new engine. Other people just swap on the PI heads manifolds, and cams. This leads to a compression bump because the NPI (Non-PI) pistons are not dished and the heads have a larger combustion chamber. PI pistons are dished and have a smaller combustion chamber. Putting the smaller combustion chamber on an NPI block with the non-dished pistons results in the compression bump and slightly more power at the cost of having to run higher octane fuel to prevent knocking.

In the mean time, you can do a few mods for cheap in your garage. There's the bumper tuck (aesthetic), the J-mod, and the headlight relay harness (makes a huge difference in how bright your headlights are).

Re: my new car.

i have a guy who does all the exhaust work for pretty cheap and he does full custom work so i will deffinitly be htting him up soon. i could do it real soon if i didnt just drop an arm and a leg doing a custom exhaust on my buick. i have a 92 lesaber with a custom 3" x pipe and that kinda broke me for now haha. now if i can just sell the buick i can afford some good upgrades, haha.
