Dented oil pan....help, please. 93... 3.1...lumina

Ok....just as the title says...i had a buddy of mine helping me with my strut replacement.....and he jacked the car up ON THE FRIGGIN OIL PAN...

I used the search button but could not find a link to a picture of where the pickup is on my 1993 3.1l lumina.

My current plan is to mig weld a bolt onto the oil pan and use a slide hammer to significantly lessen the dent.

Will this work?

Where is the pickup located?

Is there any way to swap oil pans without pulling the engine (i dont have the provisions for this job)?

Thank you for your time,

john ny

Could you post a pic of the dent? Mild dents, or dents near the edge of the pan's bottom can be ignored.

Straightening a dent may not be a good idea, either. Sometimes a soft, dent (called an 'oil can' dent can be pulled straight using the technique you mention. But if the dent has any sharp creases, straightening it may split the metal along the crease.

My biggest concern with a deep dent is if any damage has occured to the pick-up tube.
A bent pick-up tube can loosen up and fall off in future, become cracked or be pinched so flow is inhibited.... all of which are bad.... so post that pic, if you can.

So, your best course of action depends entirely on what the dent looks like.

the pick up tube is in the deepest pan area..since the pan is bent this could also mean that it will leak as this is usually what happens..at the engine /pan gasket area....

I will post a picture later.

Dent is really bad... and right where the pickup is.

Is there any way to pull the pan with out pulling the engine?
