1987 nissan pick up cooling problem NEED HELP!!!!!!
hello i have a 1987 Nissan pick up with a z24i 4 cylinder inline motor. 2 months ago i noticed it was leaking antifreeze so looking around the engine i noticed there was a wet spot around the temperature gasket so i replaced the gasket thinking that was the problem well i noticed it started to leaking again so im thinking the truck is 22 years old its got to be the water pump. i replaced the water pump today and noticed that it was still leaking so when i had the car on i looked and it was coming out of a 90 degree angle thing going to the thermo wax which is under the carb and the thermostat is before it so i dont know how to fix it if there is even a part to fix it with... i have the service manual for it but doesnt say anything about it.. i hope it dont have to replace the whole intake manifold...can anyone help

Re: 1987 nissan pick up cooling problem NEED HELP!!!!!!
this sounds like a head gasket issue which is common on these trucks. Not a terribly hard fix other than alot of stuff to move around under the hood, removing the intake manifold and dealing with the timing chain can be a challenge.........you may want to look at doing a reconditioned head exchange. Taking the old one off and having it milled can be a fix but if your truck has alot of miles like mine ( about 300k ) you can get a rebuilt head with cam, valves ground and seated, and new seals for about $ 275. ready to bolt on and you just have to adjust the valves and torque the head. My truck was in storage for about 10 years and last year I dragged it out and started restoring it and this was the 1st thing that I had to do other than replace one of the ignition coils...............

Re: 1987 nissan pick up cooling problem NEED HELP!!!!!!
where is it leaking again?
under the cab from the engine? or is it coming from actually under the dashboard? I dont understand. If it is coming from the dashboard its the heater core you can bypass it with a 20c plastic plug if so

Re: 1987 nissan pick up cooling problem NEED HELP!!!!!!
I may have jumped the gun on the head gasket issue. I read the tag as a cooling problem so I re read your problem. Is the truck overheating ? Where is it leaking ? there is a 1 " short rubber hose that is under the intake manifold that is really tough to get to and to see. This is a common hose leak for older trucks due to not being able to get to the location..........replacement is awkward but do-able with a little bit of coaxing.........

yes, I read this as "a wet spot around the thermostat" but you actually wrote around the temperature gasket.
