96 SL2 wont start after running for a while.
I have a 1996 SL2 DOHC 1.9 5spd. If I drive for a while and then stop and shut off the car, it will not start until I let it sit for 15 or more minutes. I plan on replacing the ECTS but was wondering of there is a different sensor that I can look to.

Re: 96 SL2 wont start after running for a while.
Does it not start or not turn over? If it turns over but doesn't start you need to check if you are missing spark or fuel. Also are there any codes , is eng light on?If it doesn't turn over you need to check batt terms and or safety switches relays etc in starter circuits. These are two different directions with different things to check.

Defiantly change the temp sensor and go from there

Re: 96 SL2 wont start after running for a while.
I have not changed the ECTS yet but it is in the works.
The symptoms are that the engine will turn over but will not fire. Sometimes it will fire once after a few seconds of cranking but eventually I need to wait for 15 or more minutes. After that it starts normal immediately after turning the ignition. |

Re: 96 SL2 wont start after running for a while.
There is a post in this section that found the purge solenoid had a poor connection that caused eng to receive a massive shot of fuel vapor when restarting causing veh to not start! I would think if that is your problem you may be able to start if you opened throttle by putting accelerator to floor in an attempt to get more air into eng. (may take a little time in cranking) but if it starts that may be your problem. If not, need to do more diagnostics. Let us know

Re: 96 SL2 wont start after running for a while.
I have replaced the ECTS and the problem is still there. The plugs and wires have been replaced as well. Any new suggestions?

Re: 96 SL2 wont start after running for a while.
During a no start situation check for spark at the coil towers. No spark = bad CPS. Most times the CPS becomes temperature dependent when it goes bad.
