Change distributor!!! HELP
I need to change the distributor unit. The whole thing. Anyone has directions. Is there any caveats in this or it is simple to do.

its very simple, there are three bolts holding the distributor onto your cam, after that when you remove the dizzy, make sure you remember which way the notch on the dizzy is positioned, on your new dizzy line that notch up the same way and put it on. check the timing and your set.

Thanks for the info. How do you check the timing?

You need a timing gun because you change the timing by loosening the bolts and moving the distributor, so when you take it off you completely mess all that up. So you will need to get a hold of a timing light some how.

any shop should be able to check your timing fairly easily and prolly w/o cost to you.

I DID IT! Changing the distributor was easy provided that one matches the shaft notches. My car is as good as new now. Thanks to all the advice I got on this website!

Fiercecivic, the car wouldn't start. The battery and starter were new, I changed sparks plugs, distributor cap and rotor. Finally, I changed the whole distributor.

I am not sure what you mean. You can't insert the distributor withour matchning all the notches. The engine seems to be working very quitely so i assumed that the timing is ok. I need to buy "light" to check it right?
