What does it feel like when it wont go down? Does it feel like its metal binding or does it feel like say a hard brake pedal? Your clutch is hydraulic. The only linkage is at the pedal and master cylinder and at the tranny bell housing after the clutch actuator and inside the bell housing at the throwout bearing. Because it seems it only does it while you are driving, I would think its a problem inside the clutch housing with the throwout bearing or clutch disc binding. |

Re: Clutch pedal won't go down while driving?
actuailly, if it's like my 93, it has a hydrolic throw out bearing, so the only "metal" linkage is from the pedal to the master cylinder.
there could be debree or something in the system that's stopping the flow of fluid from the master cylinder. or it could be a problem with the linkage under the dash. I'm not sure how to go about doing it, but it might be a good idea to bleed the clutch to see if there's anyting in there.

Re: Clutch pedal won't go down while driving?
Well, it just feels like its stuck.....like its caught on something....if it was something with the hydrolics it would still probably give a little but i have tried with both feet to and it still didn't budge.....but doesn't make any sence....when it does it, i just wait about 5 mins and its fine again. if something was binding up the linkages it wouldn't fix itself in 5 mins....i will take it back to the shop and have them check the whole thing....thanks for the help i'll keep ya posted

Re: Clutch pedal won't go down while driving?
I had the excact problem you are having on my 92. Problem is in the clutch master cylinder. Plastic master cylinders. Wears a groove at the top of the pedal stroke and gets caught. Very hard pedal. Replace it. It will fix your problem, but bleed the system after.

Re: Clutch pedal won't go down while driving?
I'm glad I found this page. I have 95 Jeep Wrangler and I am having this same problem. And I don't go four wheeling I don't know what the problem is. I went in for a routine oil change, and it came out getting stuck.. I don't know what to do.

Re: Clutch pedal won't go down while driving?
Welcome to AF.
The next time it's stuck, loosen the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder. Then step on the clutch pedal. If the pedal moves (and some fluid should come out, too) you know the problem is in the slave cylinder or the clutch itself. If the pedal is still stuck, then the master cylinder is at fault. |
