I have questions about the 240sx before getting one.
Right now I have a choice in getting a 1993 240sx or a 1996 maxima. But I think 240 is way better. I have many questions though. I am thinking about putting in the SR20DET motor. It looks very easy. First of all how much is the motor suppose to cost around? Just to know that people are not ripping me off. Then also I am wondering is a stock 1993 240sx manual transmition good with a SR20DET? Or should I get a better transmission right away cause alot of the motors seem to be sold with a transmission. Ands I also wondering can any machanic that know hows rebuild engines be able to put it in, or does he need to be familiar with the SR20DET? And last but not least is the gas milage on the SR20DET? What is it? If someone can answer these questions, that will be so helpful. thank you.

Re: I 240sx is bomb
SR motors vary from the places you get them, for the motor and tranny and ECU and such you are expected to pay around 2 grand, for an entire front clip around 3-4 or so.
The swap is very easy to do as it is a direct bolt in, the hardest part is always the electrical issues. The gas mileage is around 20-25 or so as I've been told. It is a drop from the KA, and the regular SR tranny is fine to run, even the KA tranny is fine to run, as long as you don't plan to push 400HP out of the motor. Basically the best thing to do is search around on google and read everything you can about SR20 swaps, the swap is very common so there will be plenty of articles about it. |

240sx is bomb
ALso I was use to have a 1989 Toyota Cressida, and they have supra engines. Which car is easier to modify and is more reliable when modified? I also have seen them used in drifting and they look like they are doin really good. but just wondering what is the difference between the two in prices to modify?

Re: I 240sx is bomb
cressida = 0 aftermarket support. you WILL have to fabricate a ton of stuff in order to get it ready for any sort of motorsport.
seeing your knowledge in your posts. an SR swap will not be easy for you.

Re: I 240sx is bomb
I would stick with the 240, especially if you are considering getting into drifting. It is a very easy car to work on, and the SR20 is an amazing engine. I am not sure what the Nissan enthusiast population is like in Washington but it is pretty high here. I would suggest trying to find a local Nissan forum and start to just watch, read, listen and learn. I have the regular SR20DE (nonturbo) and actually manage to get around 30 to the gallon. It is also now at 256,000 miles. You probably won't get that out of the turbo but they are still very strong engines and should last you a while.
The 240's are also very nicely weighted for drifting. Almost seem to be naturally designed for it. They break loose easily with a good clutch kick and can hold a slide in a turn for a while if done right. I am not sure about the cressida.
