'94 Wrangler 4.0L Died, no start
Just finished tuning up and putting in a new water pump and thermostat on a '94 Wrangler with 107K on it. Started it up and test drove it, ran decent cold, acted a little flooded once it warmed up and the check engine light came on. Got home and scanned it, code 21, no signal from oxygen sensor. Had it running while I scanned it, crawled underneath it and inspected the O2 sensor wires, one of the white ones was broken and the gray one was frayed in between the plug that mounts to the side of the engine and the sensor. In the process of looking at the wires, i moved the harness up and down, the idle sped up when i pushed it up, then after I let go to climb out and shut it off to fix the wires, it slowed down and died. Now, after fixing the wires, it won't start. Cranks over fine, the fuel pump primes, but it never fires. Now the codes are 22, 23 and 24. Coolant temp sensor out of range, charge sensor out of range and throttle position sensor out of range. I'm assuming the computer grounds all of these sensors, which is leading me to believe the computer may have fried as those wires came back to rest. Anyone ever heard of this? Is that possible? All fuses are fine, at least in the 2 main fuse boxes, they all have power to them, all grounds I can find are good and I pretty much inspected every wire on the rig.

Re: '94 Wrangler 4.0L Died, no start
First off replace the o2 sensor, repairing the wires is generaly not recomended for this type of sensor if the repair was/is on the o2 side of the harness.
and the blk/lt blue wire is tied to the t.p.s. sensor and the coolant temp sensor. |

Re: '94 Wrangler 4.0L Died, no start
I was planning on replacing the sensor after I test drove it to make sure the CE light didn't come back on. as the break was about half way from the sensor to it's plugin. I tried just unplugging the sensor and trying to start it, but still nothing. If the sensor was bad, it'd still start. Do you know which fuse feeds that wire? I'm hoping I just missed it or something and it popped when the wires touched.

Re: '94 Wrangler 4.0L Died, no start
Great thanks. I visually checked the fuse, but I didn't check for power to it. I hear the pump coming on for a split second, so it's a little power anyway. I'll look at it again. The wiring diagrams I had didn't show me that. I'm hoping it's not the computer, as the pump runs for a second, the dash warning lights all come on and the gauges all respond with the key too. I'll have to check for spark and power to the coil/dist I guess. Thanks again for the info 33

ok check for spark and check the wiring again, sounds like it may be flooded if there is no wiring problem and you have spark, clear the codes and see which ones come back if any.

Re: '94 Wrangler 4.0L Died, no start
Update. No spark. All fuses have power and are good. All wires look fine. The only bad spot is the one i repaired a few inches away from the O2 sensor. Cleared codes, same ones come back, 22,23,24.

Re: '94 Wrangler 4.0L Died, no start
Ran to the local junkyard, they had a '94 4.0L 5 speed, just lke this one, except that it had ABS, where mine doesn't. Does anyone know if that computer would work? My part number is 56028291, the other one is 56027362(I think). They're only asking like $30 for it, but I don't want to compound my problems by hooking it up if not.

Re: '94 Wrangler 4.0L Died, no start
Update II. Problem solved. Went back to that junkyard after some research and it appears all computers from 4.0L 5 speeds will interchange. The numbers are different, but I test drove it and everything works and it runs great. Lesson learned, shut the f-in' thing off before you go fishing for damaged wires. Thanks again 33.
