Venture idles at very high revolutions

I own a 2004 Venture Van. Once I start the van it runs at a very fast idle. Once on the road I do not need to step on the gas. It will gradually reach a speed of 50 plus miles per hour. If I am on the expressway, I can reach a speed of 70 and the van will stay at that speed without using the gas peddle or cruise control. (cruise is turned off)

I have had the trottle checked out and it is okay. So I would like to know which sensors and switches are involved in telling the engine how fast to run. Can anyone help me out?

There is a valve on the air intake that control the idle speed of the engine. If it's stuck, you will have this problem. To fix this, I turned the ignition on (but not start the van) and leave on for 10 sec. followed by turning it off for 10 sec. followed by starting the engine. This usually fixes the problem. If it needs replacement, make sure the new one has the valve stem extended less then 1 1/8". Good luck

IAC valve. (Idle Air Control)

Make sure the wire to it is secure and clean before you replace the valve. Plus, the valve can be cleaned. (or so I've been told)

It wouldn't hurt to clean the throttle body either. Throttle body spray cleaner and a soft toothbrush does it.
