1/12 Williams Renault FW14B
Hi guys,
After making the 1/20 FW14B, I've decided to challenge myself by attempting 1/12 version. First & foremost, when I saw the box, I didn't think it was this gigantic until I can't even put it on my working table. Thus the photo of the box is shot on top of my bed. I didn't think the content was a lot & the size is much bigger compare to the 1/20 version that I've made. ![]() ![]() The reason I shot the photo below is to show how big the engine really is on 1/12 version. Wow! ![]() The photos of the engine. Didn't think it was really detailed compare to the Fujimi version that I've made. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I can't deny that this is the most expensive F1 kit I've ever bought & also would be the most detailed in terms of the detailing level provided by the kit I've ever made. I will be building this kit out of the box as I didn't buy any detail upgrade parts except for the camel decals. I will continue on with the work tomorrow provide if I have the time. Adrian |

Looking good so far. Be patient and take your time building this one. It's a big project, but will reward your efforts..

Re: 1/12 Williams Renault FW14B
Thanks, guys, for the comments.
I was working on the rear brake discs & here are the photos. Didn't think that the brake discs can be this big. ![]() ![]() This took me a while to get it done (that includes some little rest in between). Wow, the details. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I will continue on the engine later along with painting the monocoque (I'm wondering why the monocoque provided by the kit is kind of fused with the nose cone. Oh well.....) Adrian |

Hi Adrian,
Looks good, I am building the same right now. Did you try to file smooth the white metal pieces for the suspension arms? KC |

Re: 1/12 Williams Renault FW14B
Hi guys,
KC27 : I smoothed off the excess of the metal parts & thanks for the comment. My project is delayed as my TS-44 & TS-29 have run out. Only today I could get a can of TS-44 as it's quite hard to get Tamiya spray cans in my place as almost all the scale modelers here are into Gundams & animes rather than F1, cars, military, MotoGP, etc. Anyway, enough with the talks, I've done the harness & wow, didn't think the details is this much as they include pads for the seat belt except you have to put some work on it. ![]() As I've gotten a can of TS-44 I've almost completed the monocoque. The photos along with the interior in various angles. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() How do I solve the gap/spacing here if you see the photos above? I tried to sand the console inside to reduce the height but doesn't seem to be enough for me otherwise I have to dismantle part of the suspension to redo sand the console. I have to wait for the shop to receive the TS-29 from the supplier which is estimated to arrive here around first week of December, hopefully as I have a new kit waiting for me to build. Adrian |

Re: 1/12 Williams Renault FW14B
Hi guys,
I wouldn't go to much details of my build but here is what I've done throughout the whole day today. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The length is longer than I thought. This kit seems to make the 1/20 kits look small. Man, I'm amazed by the length of the kit. I will continue to work on the rear cowl & then finish up the kit before moving to the next kit. This is really one of the most detailed kit I've ever work on be it bikes or F1 car kits. Adrian |

Re: 1/12 Williams Renault FW14B
It's coming along fine Adrian
have you tried considering using some detail items on you builds? especially for 1/12 - there are many little things you can do that will really bring out the detail of these large scale kits - see Daniels FW14B it's in the completed works category and he has a WIP too Just a suggestion Adrian - to help develop your skills - also don't be in a hurry to finish a kit when you build them - do trial fittings and mock-ups and find ways around things like the joining seams on the from cowl cover. Remember each time you build a kit try to learn something new and practice the things you have learned before - it is a continuing experience. John |

Thanks, John. Honestly that time, I didn't think much about putting details due to the extra spending needed if I were to put some details, thus I decided to build out of box type. If I have some more cash in hand, I would consider putting up some details in the next kit. ![]() Actually that time I had plenty of time especially the weekends where I wouldn't have much activities that time, thus I can take the whole day to make the kit which includes time taking a rest. He he Here are the photos of the completed model along with the comparison of the 1/20 scale. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I will start building the McLaren MP 4/13 soon. Not sure what will be next for me to build after the MP4/13. Adrian |

Re: 1/12 Williams Renault FW14B
wow Adrian - it came out very well - I like the base you made for the 1/12 FW14B
what I meant by adding detail is a little carbon fiber and miscellaneous wire and PE nuts and bolts - for about $40 usd you can really add a lot of detail that would teach you new skills and planning - still Adrian I understand about money - you did a great job and should be proud - this is your best F1 car yet - good job with the paint and decals - Bravo John |

Re: 1/12 Williams Renault FW14B
Wow, you made a lovely job of the Williams Adrian, it looks great..!!! If I can make one small observation I think the TS-44 Blue is not dark enough, but it doesn't take anything away from the overall finish of the model. Maybe sand the tyre seams some more too as they are still quite visible. Is the rear wing seated correctly..?? It looks to be tilted forward slightly..?? But they're only minor things. Looking forward to following your McLaren MP4/13 build, good luck with it
