2000 Cavalier A/C compressor

I've searched around here and few have asked it on replies but no answers. My A/C compressor is gone and i was wondering if i go to my local auto parts store and ask them for same year, make and model but without A/C for a new belt. Would it fit to just bypass the AC compressor or would i have to look around for a belt that would fit?

Re: 2000 Cavalier A/C compressor

getting a belt from an a/c delete car may not work.those paticular engines may have different tensioner and idler pulleys from yours and would be yet a different length from your engine w/o a/c.might be best to call your dealer, give him the last 8 digits of your vin and have him look up the correct engine/belt/tensioner and idler setup the have him turn off the vin filter and see if there is a belt listed for your engine w/o a/c using your belt tensioner and idlers.if there is,ask if it's in stock and if h could get you the size off of it....if you don't like the delership pricing.....

hope that helps.

for some cars they make a bypass pull to put on the front of the ac comp( say your compressor locked up)
pop the old one off and bolt on the pulley.

Re: 2000 Cavalier A/C compressor

Thanks everyone for the info.

I took off the old belt and routed it around bypassing the A/C compressor and then pulled it tight and measured out the length.. came out to be 63 inches long. Went to the local auto store and ask them for the same make/model/year w/o A/C and it came up to be 63 inches long as well.

Needless to say it works perfect now.
