1985 S-10 questions

Hello all. I have an 85 S-10 2.8L V-6 that my step daughter drove without coolant in the radiator which in turn blew the head gasket. Don't know for sure how long she drove it that way but according to the local machine shop, the crank needs to be replaced as a bearing seized and the block needs to be line honed to remove slight damage to the #1 main bearing area. He told me this would cost more than worth so I am parting the truck out. I have too many other projects to take on another. I plan to use the chassis under my 1940 Chevy. What I am trying to find out is what transmission I have in the truck. The data sheet from the factory states a code of 5ML.. and the window sticker just shows 4 spd auto trans. Anyone know what transmission this would be? I had planned on installing a 700r4 on my 350 (383) engine in the 40 and one person told me they thought that was the transmission that was in the S-10. Any comments/info would be greatly appreciated.
I have all the smog stuff, complete S-10 body with no dents and no rust at all which I will be selling. Also have the heads off the 2.8 L engine which are being redone. Probably have some other parts off this truck available too after I sort out what I will use on the chassis for my 40 project. Thanks in advance for any comments/info

The transmission will not be a 700r4. The transmission is more likely a 200r4. The 700r4 will only fit a 4.3L v6 not the 2.8L. You can change transmissions between the 2.8L and 4-banger.

Thanks for the info Dugie. I was also wondering if anyone out there had changed the hubs on an S-10 to larger size and if there are parts available to upgrade for heavier engine etc. Anyone know or have comments/suggestions? Thanks in advance

Re: 1985 S-10 questions

TheClockmaker, I have a 1988 s10 with a 2.8L and a 700R4 from the factory. I am trying to sell the engine and transmission. The engine was totally rebuilt and has less that 10K miles and the transmision was rebuild two years ago and has less than 500 miles. I had the tranny rebuilt by Chuck Hutton Chevrolet in Memphis, TN. Do you know anyone interest in buying? I know this is an old post, but thought I would try.
Thanks
