Clutch/Transmission /Flywheel...video posted

95 SL - 163K MTX-
Replaced recently--> solid F and R engine mounts -->F stock was ripped clean
Vogtland sport springs, KYB Gr-2s, both axles (I thought this woud fix my problem but didn't change anything )

CLUTCH WORKS FINE FOR SHIFTING, THERE IS NO GRINDING IN ANY GEAR,

SYMPTOMS ARE: youtube video --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_KS51zzIJM
both wheels youtube video --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DF6ewdoCuU

----There is play in the drive and seems to originate from the transmission area.
----With car raised, if you turn the wheels quickly back and forth (radially) with your hand, there is about 1-2 inches of play and then thunk, it engages and turns the wheels.
-----THis creates a clanking, scraping, rattling sound near the clutch to tranny area
THis is not the case if the car is out of gear. (smooth spinning)
If you spin the wheel hard, it feels as if the flywheel clanks and then takes over to keep the wheels spinning (very briefly obviously)
--DRIVING THE CAR SYMPTOMS
THe same symptom appears in all 5 gears. Step on the gas, thud thud and then engagement. Also, if you let off the gas at say above (2200rpm) you can feel a slight thud as the load is released from the engine.
The only way to avoid this symptom is to use the clutch to decrease the load over time and slowly step on/ release throttle (Releasing clutch in 5 seconds versus 1-2seconds for a normal shift)

I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS: 1.THROWOUT BEARING 2.CLUTCH 3.TRANSMISSION (if there is a constant gear setup- i.e.- the symptom is the same in all 5 gears) 4.FLYWHEEL 5.Broken Bolt (clutch/flywheel bolt)

Can anyone diagnose? My guess is flywheel/clutch or ?engagement gear? in tranny. Any thoughts are appreciated..

Re: Clutch/Transmission rough engagement...

I think those parts are for awd. (Carrier bearings, etc.) The only part supporting the drive(shaft) is the mount on the half-shaft. Otherwise it's axle to tranny. Thanks though, and correct me if I am wrong on those parts you listed.

Visual inspection of suspension parts- tie rod ends, etc. appears fine.

Re: Clutch/Transmission rough engagement...

Got your PM. Unfortunately the only way you are going to be able to diagnose further is to pull the trans.

If its a clutch, pressure plate, or flywheel issue then you should know easily. If there are no problems with them then you may need to open the trans up.
