Cleaning Engine

What is the best way to clean engine? What should i put on it to clean it. I have a 2.8 V6 i want to take it up to car wash and do it. I was wondering best chemical to use on it thanks. It is in truck and running.

Heavy/strong degreesers are hard on rubber stuff.
Brake clean or cleaning solvent to break lose the greese,
Dod not clean when engine is real hot and Cover the dist cap.
And remove and dry out cap and rotor when done.

pure steam works best,,,with no chemicals...used to clean most vehicles/componets before overhaul...

soaps /and chemicals can get into electrical etc damaging the connections....[acid/alkaline agents]...
