Looking for a Hot Hatch

I'm really interested in getting a hot hatch manual. VW GTI, looks like a great fit. Decent mileage, decent carrying capacity and decent acceleration. The problem is, I'm a bit of a pudge to fit comfortably in the seats. I've driven the Focus ST, and it's not bad, but less carrying capacity, lower mileage and slower acceleration, etc makes it a cut below. Does anyone know of anything else to look at, or something that *will* be available in the next 6 months?

Any help would *really* be appreciated.
