Temp At 240 Please Help....

My 98 chevy K 1500 5.0 is running at 240 degrees. Last week I replaced head and intake gaskets. along with three different thermistats. first two would not open. There is no air packets in cooling system.also has new heater core which is a month old flushed radiator and block to make sure there was no blockage. With in five minutes of runnig truck will reach 240. If you take the stat out the truck runs at about 125. the only thing that has not bin replaced is the radiator and water pump.

Re: Temp At 240 Please Help....

Feel your upper and lower radiator hoses after your truck warms up. Are they different temperatures? If so, I would suspect maybe the stat is sticking again, or the waterpump isn't curculating.

Oddd, Stupid question, but are you putting it in in the right direction? Spring side goes toward the engine.

not really a stupid question....with your problem this guy is very correct...there are a lot of stupid people on these forums...thats why there here to learn and save some money/time with vehicle issues...

since you have no overheating with the thermostat removed I would say you have the wrong thermostat or defective ...many a thermostat made today is chinese crap...get the correct exact replacement for your engine ...and as he also stated 198degF is an incorrect thermostat..for your engine..that is an odd temp..

the thermostat should have a small hole in it so that the coolant can very slightlly bypass it...this then allows the thermostat to open as the coolant flows...obviously if you have the wrong thermost this will not occur...

think about this !!!! the thermostat don't open so how are the hoses going to get hot ?????????????????????

the damm engine becomes a pressure cooker! hoses never get to see any heat, NO FLOW .......

just thought of this ,,, this is the same type of problem one would find when you don't have enough antifreeze on a very cold day...the coolant in the radiator freezes and the engine overheats..

the hoses are frozen and the engine is smoking hot..same as your engine ,,NO flow!
