Dry Ice on the Intercooler? Would this really work?
This guy put dry ice on his intercooler, does this actually give you any additional horsepower? I wouldnt think that it would make much of a difference since the hot air would probly melt anything it touches anyway. Besides, aren't you supposed to use gloves when handling that stuff?
The bad thing is, on his first run he snapped his tranny. I was wondering if this had something do do with the dry ice intercooler, but who knows.... http://www.fullsolo.org/videos/play/192770 |

Anything that keeps the IC's cool will cause denser colder air. In theory, yes, it would give you some more power especially after running it hard for a while where it would normally suffer from heat soak.

Re: Dry Ice on the Intercooler? Would this really work?
It won't technically make more power, but it will help to make it so you dont lose your power due to heatsoak. Anything that keeps IAT's (intake air temps) down will help. Im spraying meth and it allows me to run leaner and run more timing, making more power

Re: Dry Ice on the Intercooler? Would this really work?
Just make sure you log in a few different temperatures and humidities. If your car runs without any KR on a cool night with low humidity it may have some on a hot high humidity day. Thats just one thing ive learned from tuning at night.
What engine management are you using?

What car do you have? And how are you going to adjust timing?

Re: Dry Ice on the Intercooler? Would this really work?
I believe he has a 3000gt. I think I have seen him post in the 3S section on AF. I would not suggest you alter your timing at this point. .02

Re: Dry Ice on the Intercooler? Would this really work?
I doubt the gains would be massive, but inbetween runs it'll help with heat soak. All of us losers with top mounts do it, but with bags of ice from the gas station.

Re: Dry Ice on the Intercooler? Would this really work?
I saw a guy at the track with a giant bag of ice on top of his supercharger itself in an 11 second GTP, so it must work pretty well. Cobalt SS and Redlines have several mods that allow you to use ice or something similar to add to the heat exchanger to cool it off more effectively. Those two cars benefit stupid amounts from simple cooling mods, due to the reduced heatsoak.
So it works, just do the cheap route. Unless you are going for the dry ice smoke rolling off your car look.
