Removing CAT from 92 Civic

My exhaust was installed to close and too far in to my bumper and every 2 days the damn bumper turns black... I get tired of cleaning the shit from the engine... im having it cut off and reput on... he also asked me if I wanted to take off the catalyc converter... he says I WILL feel a difference... here in FL they dont have inspections so I dont see how it would be a problem.. should I have it removed? I'll keep it in my garage somewhere just in case but... is it worth removing? how much different would it feel? would it sound louder? About how many HP increase? Thanks...:licker:

I am not sure how strict it is there in FL. CA is very strict, though, from the posts I gathered here. Anyway, since in general emissions in the U.S. is strict, it might be wise to leave the cat on. I had mine taken off, even if we have emission tests here (see my other thread on how my friend actually passed the test here without a cat). I am not sure how much hp is added, but yes there is some difference.

I have removed my CAT to replace it with a High Flow CAT and I drove it around the block without it on and I would not suggest removing it. It was so loud that a cop has sent to my house to tell me to turn off my car and fix it. If you have ever been to the track, its about as loud as that. As far as the blackening goes I would look at drilling outlet holes before the muffler just to reduce the temp at the end.

Huh? A cop sent to your house? Unless you really love to drive around your place, I think that's too drastic. So if I have a Harley, what will your neighbors there supposed to do?

I took off my caty and got new headers from my 93 civic, and it is a HELL of a lot louder....i got a cop right across the street, he never said nothing, but any way it only alot louder above 3500 RPM, you shouldnt be driving like that in a resedental zone I can feel more power, from stock, the stock caty causes SO MUCH restriction, stoping restiction is the key to more easy HP. My opinion, if their is not test on emisions, TAKE THE RESTRICTIVE PIPE OUT. If all the old street legal 69 Chevy's and all that dont require to use cat converters, why should we.....

I really need to decide within the next 9 hours because my friend is going to fix my exhaust so I want to know if I really should remove it. You have a perfect point there jeff. So would it really be alot louder for JUST removing my cat? and any idea how much HP it gives? Thanks all for your help!!!:smoka:

I really dont know how much HP gain there is, but since it is all just straight through with no restriction, it has to add something, it WILL be louder, and DONT brag about it, because this IS illegal, and can get you fines if you are caught some how, like if you go get an oil change or get you car inspected they WILL look, but since "fixxing the caty" only means knocking out the little pipe (hopfully that is what your doing) it will still look like you have a cat converter,, it's kinda a gamble..
"Law or HP".
