01 4.3L AC pump removal
I'm back. Again.
I am going to pull the AC pump off. Does anybody have any safety tips for discharging the AC system and what all I should take off to keep things from flopping around under the hood? I already have the eliminator pulley and the belt. I just want to do this correctly and safely. I don't feel like getting a face-full of high-pressure freon.(or whatever it's called now) I know it will give me better gas mileage by removing the AC pump. I'm in a challenge with a friend who has a 95 Ford Explorer sport with a 5-speed, and were seeing who can get better gas mileage for less money. So far I'm up to 23-25 on the interstate. He's at 21 to 23 on the interstate. I have to stay ahead. Thank you all. Safety is key. ~JD~

Re: 01 4.3L AC pump removal
Take it to a licensed shop to have the refrigerant recovered for you. It's illegal to dump it into the air.
If you don't want to use the AC, simply don't. It doesn't cost you anything in in mileage to have it on the truck but unused.
