2000 TC frequent clicking, maybe from under dash

Just recently my 2000 TC (48 k miles, well maintained) has started clicking -- not really constant, but random and very frequent, as though something with a sensor is turning a relay on and off. Sounds very similar to the blinker, and seems to be coming sort of from under the dash, although it's hard to tell and I suppose it could be the steering column. Nothing seems to be affected, but it's annoying and something must be getting way too much use.

Googling around, it appears that this is not an uncommon problem in this vintage TC, but I haven't seen a definitive solution yet. Anyone have ideas on how to go about diagnosing what the problem is?

Re: 2000 TC frequent clicking, maybe from under dash

I'm getting this narrowed down, it seems. One thing to do is check to see that the ground of the lighting control module is good:

<<The light-control module is located under the centre of the dash below the climate-control module. Before replacing the module, verify that the hazard switch isn't partially depressed, the module has power and a good ground.>>

Unfortunately, I can't figure out from that where to the module is, how to get to it, nor can I find the ground -- supposedly under the driver-side kick panel, but if that's the plastic piece just in front of the door, I have no clue how to get off.

Re: 2000 TC frequent clicking, maybe from under dash

Hello, I own a 95LTC myself, an I had the same problem. There are 2 relays under the dash on mine. One was on the plenum a/c box and the other was under the EATC. I replaced them and haven't had a problem since. If I were you, I would bet them from the dealership b/c you really don't want to do this project twice.

Bryan, thanks for the tips! Quite a job, eh?

I think the '95 and '98-and-beyond are designed a good bit differently, but I'll sure give a try at trying to find the relays. -- Sorry, I don't know what EATC is (nor where it is). Any help you could give me in locating the position of the relays would be much appreciated!

EATC Electric Automatic Temperature Control. This is the control head where you control the A/C and Heat. Most likely the relay is under this unit if you remove it. Hope this helps.

Thanks again -- I'll do some searching.

(Meanwhile, anybody know where to find the ground for the blinker switch and/or lighting control module?)
