Turn signal problem

My girlfriend has a 98 cherokee classic 4.0L. recently when she turns her left turn signal on, the rear hazzard lights come on. When the signal is to the right, the hazzards don't come on. I'm assuming it has seperate relays but not sure. She just got pulled over today so probably need to take a look. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!!

Re: Turn signal problem

Could be a short in the multifunction unit. It's in the steering column and the turn signal lever is attached to it.

Re: Turn signal problem

I thought about that. That part is pretty expensive to change. Not sure if the 98's have a relay that controlls both the turn signal and the hazard lights. Think that could be something too? thanks for your help.

Re: Turn signal problem

That is what I was leaning towards as well. Does anyone know ith that year has seperate turn signal and hazard relays? Some years they are tied to 1 relay. Maybe I should check the relay first, it is alot cheaper to replace.
thanks for the advise!!
