96 Shifting Problems.....PLEASE HELP!!

I have a 1996 Saturn (manual) Yesterday driving home it wouldnt shift into 2nd, 4th, or Reverse. My husband has removed the console and checked the shifting cable (located on the drivers side) everything is still entact. He also got underneath the car and looked and it seems to be entact from this view as well. Is there something else we can check? Is there only one shifting cable?

There are two cables. One of yours is loose either at the tranny or at the shifter inside the car. 2, 4, and reverse are all on the same side of the shift tower, aka the cables pushes the lever at the tranny into gear. For 1, 3, 5, the cable pulls the lever at the tranny into gear.

There are two connections at the tranny. One that holds the cable sleeve in place. the other that holds the cable (moving part) to the tranny lever. Check both.
