1976 Broadspeed Racing Jaguar XJC-12 Coupe
This is my in progress scrachtbuilt Broadspeed Jaguar XJ12 competition coupe in 1/25 scale, is a long way to go in the bodywork, a LOT of blending, putty, sanding and shaping still ahead but I think the basic shape is there, not perfect but I like the result, this is what I call "the dirty stage" in which all the things are been added and then blended to the body.
The interior is next and that will also have to be made from the ground up, the main part will be the right hand dash and central tunnel, this will be a curbside model so no chassis/engine detail will be present in the final model, the tires and wheels are provisionals modifications until I find something more in tune with the original car.....but maybe I will leave these with some rework. I would also like to make some day the New Avenger "Steed green Jaguar".....but the front end is a little different than the Broadspeed coupe...and making another body from scracht is not going to happen ![]() Hope you like it as much as I do, is not a "perfect" scale replica but it will be a nice addition to the racing collection of a car I have been wanting to build for a looooooong time. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Scalemodelfanatic; 10-08-2010 at 09:13 AM. |

The Jag looks amazing. What did you use for a base under all the mods?
I saw one of the Big cats at Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago, it's an incredible looking car. Stuart. |

Re: 1976 Broadspeed Racing Jaguar XJ-12 Coupe
Stuart and Cingster,
Thanks for the positive review on this project, greatly appreciated. I wish I had the luck to see one of these Racing XJ racing specials in person, if in pictures they look super impresive...can't imagine one in the "flesh". The "base body" used for the Jaguar is a AMT models 1970 Dodge Super-Bee....you can still see in the model the side "vent" molding under the back side window which still need to be filled, the body was heavily cut, bend, laminated etc. the central roof (purple color) came from a 1971 Monogram Barracuda and the A and C pillars where formed from plastic sheet and then laminated/blended with epoxy modeling putty. The hood area is a compleat plastic sheet lamination work and is still in progress. The wheels fender extensions are plastic sheet heated over a flame and press against a balsa shaped form, then cut, sanded and glued.....now they need to be "blended" to the body of the car. Today I put the first coat of primer to see the imperfections and it was there that the body look even more like a XJ-12!!!. Will post a little update tomorrow. |

Re: 1976 Broadspeed Racing Jaguar XJ-12 Coupe
I haven't make my mind yet, at first wanted to do the second one which looks fantastic, but have to admit that this version is also quite attractive and impresive!!!

Re: 1976 Broadspeed Racing Jaguar XJ-12 Coupe
A little update on the Jag project.
Put a light coat of primer to see all the imperfections and other areas that still need putty or sanding...and by the pictures you can see there a LOT of them to be corrected, but is slowly getting there. The side "vent" found on the donor Super-Bee model now have a plastic plug, but still needs putty to blended with the rest of the body. Modified a AMT Porschr Martini 935 back wheel with a Fujimi BBS center(like front wheels), which was cut and sanded to diameter to fit the AMT wheel, now the car...in my opinion looks much better than the previus photos posted with smaller back wheels/tires, still don't know if will scrachtbuilt the appropiate five spoke wheels found in the real car, to be honest I like the look of the BBS wheels....will see in the end!! The back spoiler and bumper where fabricated from styrene stock and still needs work, working now in the interior, the roll cage is almost done it just need two more tubes added to the back, the dash was made from plastic card and used the Super-Bee kit part as a fundation again. The froor stamping/detail is next and in here a little "artistic licence" will be taken since finding actual references on the real car is quite hard...let alone this parts!!! Again this is by no means a 100% accurate scale replica BUT I am very happy with the results so far. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: 1976 Broadspeed Racing Jaguar XJ-12 Coupe
the slope of the rear boot area looks a bit too severe compared to the drawings
.I think it makes the car lose some of the elegance of the cigar shape from front to rear. It's also looking a bit too short, again losing some of the character due it being somewhat "stumpy". Anyways, good luck.

The drawings you posted and a fellow forum member was kind to e-mail to me some months ago, are not very accurate, in particular car(004)detail and dimensions...in fact if you look at the roofline on those drawings you will see a little deviation from the real car actual roofline style, also the front spoiler is different in the "004" car it call "as raced" in my very PERSONAL opinion the dimensions of the car in those drawings are to long in lenght. Again as I said before my model is not perfect or pretend to be, the important thing is that I like it and am happy |

the saloon road car ![]() the coupe ![]() and don't get me wrong; just want to give you as much reference as possible. and just came across this in case you missed it.
