Radio wont pick up distant stations

My 92 C1500 factory radio has stopped picking up distant stations. i have checked the antenna wire at the radio and the antenna both are good. mount to the fender is good. I know on 88 and 89 chevys you could simultainously push two buttons on the face to get a little extra power. I thought maybe GM had a hidden fix like that on this model. That may toggle the settings between local / distant. any help would be good. Thanks!!!

Re: Radio wont pick up distant stations

Check the coax resistance from where it plugs into the radio and at the antenna threads with an ohm meter. It should be no more than 2. I couldn't get a reading at all on mine. It turns out that it had a short in the wire at the base of the mount. Perhaps from water getting in. I soldered a short jumper wire to the threaded stud. Almost zero ohms and a great signal.
I'm layed off, otherwise probably would of gotten a new antenna lead instead.
