Hey, people love to hate, look at how many hate American cars here, its human nature. Don't take it so personally, if you like Civics build one, don't pay attention to what other think. Theres no such thing as rice, in my book.

when a person is a rice hater its not usualy because they hate the car but whats been done to the car. ususal a "riced" car is a car that has fancy grafix a huge body kit, huge exast and a huge wing on a FWD car. and no mods to the engin so it looks fast but istn. if it was a real performanced enhasned car we wouldnt care. but alot of people done like the body kits . its a mix .. but each to their own. personaly im not afan of civics that have all this stuff and no engin.. but if they got some racing engine that car.. then its cool .. thers my rant :alien2:

These biases are making me sick... just because you like the car, it can't possibly be a ricer, can it? Half of you guys are saying ricers must be Japanese and the other half that all Japanese cars are ricers.

So the Turbo badge from a 911 Turbo slapped onto a stock 355 can't be considered rice because the car is cool? Sorry, but that's rice.

A stock Viper plastered with stickers for parts and sponsorships it doesn't have can't be considered rice because it's a fast, cool car? Well, I think it can be.

Yes, rice started out on Japanese car, but it's grown to include everything. No, there is not exact definition of a ricer, but there is still a few general definitions that aren't just a bunch of biased crap that makes us all even more stupid for reading:

A poser(pretty much covers it all)

ANY car with stickers or badges for parts, trim levels, or sponsors that it doesn't have

ANY car that puts an exhaust tip and muffler only for the purpose of looking fast

ANY car that has mostly visual mods to create the image that he is fast while at the same time trying to pass it off as fast(does not include show cars unless the owner tries to tell you it's fast)

There's a few more, but I don't feel like it right now...

To me, Ricer is a cruel rascist term for someone who is not as fortunate as others to have a lot of money or rich parents, therefor they rely on the "Cheaper" more affordable aftermarket parts that dont look appealing as others. Such as cheap small wheels, or Altezzas, or cheap exhausts that are huge, and big plastic wings, etc. etc. I do though, Contradict Ricers, just because their cars are rediculous looking.

As for Rice Cars such as civics, I dont think the car is what determines it to be rice or nice, its all in the parts. Id take a JDM civic or integra.

That is one of the wisest things I've read since becoming a member of AF! It's that type of supportive thinking that has kept me coming back! I couldn't care less if somebody doesn't like something I build because they can always build their own interpretation and that's where part of the creativity comes into play! Build what you like, it's only plastic!

Your opinion fails to answer any of the questions posed.

What makes them "rice"?
Why don't you like "rice"-y model cars?

Ive seen a Porsche Boxster Turbo and a BMW "M5 Turbo" I went up to the owner of the BMW(this was in a parking lot meet) and laughed in his face.

Among other "rice" ive seen is a VW Jetta TDI badged as a VR6....

I couldn't find my own words to describe why I'm not a ricer fan, but you said it. I have no problem with Honda's and at times find some of them nice. But the big spoilers are just tacky and even if the car is fast, does nothing but slow it down. They also have the most annoying sound an engine can make.

dude

if you like what you like, than like it and don't worry about what other people like....you have your own opinion about things...thats something you have to deal with....if everyone like the same thing life would be very boring....do what you like and what you want...don't be a follower be a leader...people opinion are helpful sometimes though....

As you have seen, Rice is a matter of taste basically. But it starts off with stuff done to a car that should never be done, much like badges on the wrong car. I have seen a Chrysler Sebring with Tryp R badges and stickers all over it. Also stickers that are on a car, and yet there is nothing on the car about that sticker, like having an HKS Sticker on a car, and it has nothing HKS. But to some people get carried away with it, saying giant spoilers, graphics, etc are all rice. Pretty much anything show is rice. I have no problme with show cars, the owners spend just as much money as people that mod their car for performance does. They spend just as much time and money in it.
Now my real view on rice-just something on a car that doesn't make sense at all, like the badges and stickers.
