please please help.....i have a chevy lumina 3.1 ..the other night my speedometer went out and then at the same time my transmission started to slip. my RPMS get up to about 4 and then it throws the car into the next gear... i just put in a new "SPEED SENSOR" last night....that wasnt the problem..speedometer still doesnt work and it still slips HORRIBLY...my check engine light came on too...what could be the problem....and i noticed i have a VERY SLOOOOWW leak that looks like it's coming from the transmission and my transmission fluids look to be dark brown and smells a little burnt.... please help!?

newer trannies seam to make the fluid dark BUT
if it is dark brown and it smells burnt,,,,,, that is bad news Dark Brown oil in a tranny is never a good sign. Newer trannies do tend to have darker oil but once it has that smoke smell it usually means that it is done. You could try a new filter oil change and some TransX but like I said it sounds don. Especially if some one already did that before you got the car. What tranny does it have in it? It should be a 4t60E.... try plugging the modulator valve vacuum line and see if she moves again. If it does stop slipping in first gear that would mean that the pressure regulator is stopped up or the modulator is bad. You can buy a new modulator but if it is the regulator, unfortunately you have to tear it down to fix it. But on the plus side you can get a lot of miles out of her running it without the modulator valve. But that would depend on how bad the clutches are in the first place |

Thank you for your help .... Ill have to look into that ...and im not sure if its a 4t60e...how can i find that out?......and i havent had the car for that long ...all of a couple of months...and ive already replaced the heads...brakes...rotors..fan motor....and there are a couple of other things i have to fix yet....previous owners werent exactly nice to this car....for one i dont think it was built to do off roading as they did...lol..actually that's not funny...considering im paying for it..but thanks again for your help sir

The filter & fluid change is a good idea but I believe the Lucas stop slip works better.
