Backseat car windows - get them all the way down
New to the Taurus Forum, just traded my olds intrigue in for a 06 SE
My question is, is there anyway to remove or change the amount the backseat windows go down...right now i can only take it down maybe half way ....my dogs need more window space. |

Re: Backseat car windows - get them all the way down
The amount the rear window rolls down tends to be dictated by the shape of the door and how it wraps around the rear wheel well.

Re: Backseat car windows - get them all the way down
Rod, I may be wrong about this but isn't there also some Federal regulation which prevents the rear windows from going farther down than half way? I thought I read something years ago that it was meant for the safety of children in the backseat of the car, and to keep them from falling out while the car is in motion.

I don't think so. The rear windows in my 2007 G35 sedan roll down all the way. Unless it used to be law and has since been removed. Maybe they lifted that regulation when power windows became essentially standard equipment along with the "window lock" button.

Re: Backseat car windows - get them all the way down
I tried looking around the Internet for any article on this subject but couldn't find anything. I could've sworn there was something the Federal Government enacted many years ago on this and it included such provisions as the child lock that vehicles have that allow you to flip the lever and the rear doors cannot be opened from the inside.(That lever is on each rear door.) I remember about 15 years ago or so standing around the shop talking with fellow employees and this subject came up. Someone mentioned about the "law" and now I probably realize it might have never been a law and I went all these years thinking that was the reason why the rear windows never went down more than 1/2 way.

Re: Backseat car windows - get them all the way down
i have a 05 Scion and the windows go all the way down....I was just hoping that it was as easy as removing a block on the window inside the car door. But I dont want to take the door apart for no reason.

Re: Backseat car windows - get them all the way down
With no quarter window in the door, it appears that the window would not be able to go all the way down with the cutout for the wheel, so I'm pretty comfortable saying it won't be as easy as removing a block. Looks like you'll have to take the Scion when the dogs are going along.
