1999 G.P.GT Died
I have a 1999 G.P. Gt and it died on me. First the starter would click but not turn over the engine. Removed Starter and Batt. and had both tested. they were said to be good. Purchased new battery anyway and put back together. Tried to start and same thing with a few extras. Key is stuck and something really strange. Dash light that tells you what gear you are in is in park but the light flashes. I have had the car since new. It has 188,687 miles on it. No MODS. The UIM and LIM gasket are in need of a change and the coolant elbow that goes to the tension motor is leaking but the engine has never been run hot.

Re: 1999 G.P.GT Died
Welcome to AF
From what you're describing, it sounds like an ignition switch issue. The contacts lose tension with age and start to arc. Fairly common problem on these vehicles.

Thanks for the help guys. It wasn't the ignition switch. I mentioned that I was losing coolant and with the radiator cap above the positive battery post i had obviosly had some unseen corrosion in the terminal
. Did some digging on this forum and found a thread that told me to check for voltage at the jumper post on top of the fuse box. Low voltage no start. THANKS for a great web site. |
