I own a 96 GXE and would like to do the taillight mod but know that I can't because of the single piece amber and red. I was wondering if I could pick up the 97 lights and put them in my car. (after doing the mod of course) I was just curious to see if anyone had tried this yet and if the lights would fit well.

what ever you do don't get the year 99' lights.....you can't get the cover and the back to come off....it;s sealed together......and people who own 99' max......don't try to do it because i tried it and it really piss me off......when you take the light off the frame there will be seals and glue all together and that will stick on anything it touches.......the seals are soft therefore thay come apart like rubber cement.....
...and to all the people who want's to do the front side light mod(make light brighter by swiching the connection)...when u do it u don't have to take the light off the frame...and if u own a 99' the light is screwed on with the front headlights...that means you'll have to take the whole set of light and the fender off.........really takes a long time and....the light bulb is really hard to put back in.....!!! |

Will the '97 lights fit into the same space that my '96 lights fit into? Or will I have to make some modifications?

Re: well.....
Ha ha, Bobo, ya shoulda asked... There is glue around all of them. The trick is, you have to get a heat gun, and heat evenly around the edges. This heats the glue up, and you can slowly pry them apart. You have to be really patient and use more heat if necassary, just watch for warping. If it won't budge, just don't force it or it WILL crack.
