Rough/Irratic Idle...then dies...

Heres a brand new problem. I just got home after an hour long drive, 30min to and from my destination...and well...now sitting in the driveway, the car barely starts, it'll crank crank crank, nothing, until i play with the throttle, then it'll start up, so long as i keep RPMs higher....then when i left off the gas it'll eventually get down to idle speed, but it bounces up and down, then eventually it drops so low it sputters out, then dies....Then it starts all over again....

I checked fuel pressure, it gets up to 42 psi, which im sure is within spec. and it'll stay around there when running....but once it shuts off, the pressure will slowly drop until it finally reaches 0. which then leads me to believe the pressure regulator is bad....or an injector is stuck open, i dont think its an injector, I'm more leaning towards pressure regulator...But i cant be sure if thats what is causing it to run shitty....I did just fill it up too, but it was at a BP With mid grade gas, so Any help or info would be awesome! Thanx!

P.S. It's a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL With the 3.1L V6 Vin T engine

Re: Rough/Irratic Idle...then dies...

Could be a stuck/bad egr valve if so equipped, dirty throttle body, gummed up iac.

Re: Rough/Irratic Idle...then dies...

I thought it may be something of that sorts, but within the past two years i've already replaced the IAC, TPS, TB gasket. Cleaned up all passage ways, i really tore into it and cleaned a ton of crud out....so I dont think its anything like that, i just went and replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator, which suprisingly wasn't to difficult nor time consuming....I also replaced the PVC valve and hose because the old ones looked SHOT!.....so it starts really well now...and seems to run pretty good, the idle is still a bit rough, but im thinking its just some air within the fuel rail, as well as fuel all within the intake plenum and manifold....Im sure once it all clears out and gets all back into the swing of things, it'll be fine...i'll keep ya posted.

Re: Rough/Irratic Idle...then dies...

Just an update...Took it for a test drive, gave it one good run from 10 to 60 at WOT....feels nice and smooth just like before...its as if nothing was wrong. So its all good. I hope this info helps anyone else out there with similar issues....

P.S. one way i knew the pressure regulator was bad was when i pulled the vacuum line out of the throttle body...it was all wet with gas. Hope it helps!
