resetting Viper 160xv remote starter

I sent this memo to directed electronics. Makers or sellers of viper remote starters. ( i have a viper 160xv remote starter and had to disconnect battery for service. Now remote trys to start three times and just shuts off.) please advise. This is the responce i received. ( when the battery goes or is replaced most aftermarket alarm systems/remote starters will lock up. Please try the following to reset the unit. 1) go to main control module under dash 2) remove the main control harness (12pin) 3) lay a screwdriver across the exposed metal pins 4) reconnect the main harness. This will discharge all the on-board capacitors allowing the unit to reset properly. Hope this helps someone i paid $60.00 to reset this unit because i received this memo to late. I had someone buying the car and was in a rush to get it fixed. This unit was in a 2005 chevy equinox.
