Buying a 2006 or 2007 Odyssey EX-L or Touring

I'm in the market for a second hand Odyssey. I'm preferring these trim packages because of the conviniences they come with (ie DVD, leather, etc). Our growing family warrants the minivan and the Odyssey by far is most stylish and packaged well.

With regards to the VCM, how do I know it's working properly when I test drive these used vehicle? It's suppose to transition seemlessly. Are there at least intrumentation indicators (lights in the dash) that states if you're in 6, 4 or 3 cylinder?

I'm basically asking for suggestions/tips for thing to look for in a second hand odyssey - like thing I should make sure is working properly that other owners have to found to break easily.

Anything like that would help. Thanks in advance.
