radiator fan won't shut off!!!

I have a 2003 ZX2, got off work yesterday and the battery was totally dead, not even enough juice for the radio.

Got a jump start and drove home and shut engine off but radiator fan just kept running (live close to home so engine never reached normal operating temperature, and it was cold/damp outside, radiator hoses weren't even hot). Engine coolant levels were good (not as much fluid as there should have been in the overflow reservoir, but it wasn't empty, either)!

I suspect a faulty CCRM allowed the radiator fan to drain the battery all the way down, I'm thinking about replacing/repairing the CCRM, but where the heck is it located....engine compartment, under the dash??

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Re: radiator fan won't shut off!!!

Welcome to the forum. On a regular Escort the CCRM is below the right strut tower in the engine compartment as you are facing the engine from the front. It's a square box 3x5 inches big with 20 or so wires running into it. A zx2 should be similar.

Re: radiator fan won't shut off!!!

Thanks Davescort97 for the info, after reviewing my situation I'm not 100% sure it's the CCRM causing the problem...could any other component (ECT??) keep the radiator fan running? Thoughts??

If the problem lies with the hi/lo fan speed relays in the CCRM, which one is which?? Any diagram/photo of the innards of the CCRM with the relays labeled?

I wish they'd come out with a Haynes/Chilton manual for my year of vehicle...I guess the Ford dealership repair centers haven't gotten their $$ worth out of the vehicle owners yet!!

Re: radiator fan won't shut off!!!

my parents, years ago had this issue with an older escort wagon they purchased, i do not recall if they replaced the entire fan or just the sensor but they did have something replaced.
i'll have to call my dad and see what he said was replaced.

Re: radiator fan won't shut off!!!

similar issue on my 99. but on my car it turned out to be a sensor that plugs into the ac line just to the right (drivers side) of the radiator, somehow it fell off and caused the same thing. just popped it back on and still lookin good
