Re: cooling fans dont come on?
What are your indicators? Coolant spewing out from massive overheating? or just a higher than normal gauge reading?
W-cars cooling fans come on at about 227 degf engine temp...and when a/c is on, they wait on 175 psi head pressure? so are you using the a/c yet? I get many questions much like yours, this time of year- folks worried their car is running hot-- truth is it is not hot, just warmer than normal, and driver is not used to seeing the temp gauge at that level. Fans aren't runnng because the a/c is not on, and engine is not hot enough yet- usually have to idle for 30 minutes to get warm enough for fans when it is only 70 degrees out. Your fans probably haven't run all winter, and now that it s warmer the gauge reads a little higher. So my point is, you may be just fine and don't realize it, a scan tool connected will reveal actual engine temp.

Re: cooling fans dont come on?
If your engine is running hot use a hammer and tap the fan motor if it runs the motor is bad. They have a two prong plug pull it apart slightly and use a 12 volt test light if it lights hook up the light to the positive terminal. Then touch the other prong if it doesn't light you don't have a ground. At this point go to http://www.alldata.com/ buy a years subscription and print a wiring diagram.
On some of these vehicles the computer closes the ground. But you need to check out fully before buying parts. |
