Paint?

94 Escort...
There is a black plastic/rubberized molding that covers the top edge of the door at the bottom of the window.
Mine is beginning to peel away and looks pretty funky.
What do you think... just peel the rest off and repaint it black, or is there a better way to clean it up?

Re: Paint?

Hi Moose! I found a good way to cover up that black plastic molding at the bottom of the windows. Use black electrician's tape. It's the exact width. Clean good before applying. I didn't peel any away. I just applied it over the top. It's been through the car wash a number of times and hasn't come off. Knock on wood.

Re: Paint?

Hmmm... interesting idea.
How hot does it get where you live?
My first thought is if the tape will survive 100+ temps through the summer. Guess it won't hurt to try.
Was thinking I might just clean it up as best I can and primer/paint with the cheapo spray.

The roof rails are peeling too... pretty ugly looking.

Re: Paint?

I peeled the plastic off all four of my doors and painted it. You'd never know. Looks good. In hind site-I used the 'el cheapo' Wal-Mart paint and it's starting to oxidize in to a gray color. Still looks better than it did though.

Re: Paint?

I peeled that rubber stuff off of my doors after it started to peel. I sanded, primed and painted it and it vastly improved the apearance of the car. I used some duplicolor Metallic black that I had left over from a touch up I did on another car. It came out great, no one would think it wasn't stock. Two years later it still looks the same, no fading or peeling.
