How to check compression:

How do you check the compression on a rotary (specifically a S4 non turbo). Is it the same procedure as checking a peeston engine?

Re: How to check compression:

It is like doing it on a piston engine. remove the spark plugs and put the compression tester where the spark plugs go

close, but you left something out.

On the rotary, you have to test 3 faces of the rotor.

So if you want to know how to do the garage special compression test, here it is:

Get a 20-40 dollar compression tester from Checkers/Autozone/whatever... Put it in the LEADING spark plug hole of which ever rotor you feel like testing. HOLD THE AIR RELIEF VALVE DOWN!!! Watch the pulses on the gauge... That gives you a GENERAL idea of what your motor is doing.. Pulses should be 90 or higher and ALL EVEN...

Re: How to check compression:

Please elaborate on the "pulse". what exactky should i be looking for and what numbers should the pulse range in?

with piston engines, compression is checked at tdc. what about rotors?
