Unhappy Replacing S10 Blazer Starter Solenoid Question

On a 1988 S10 Blazer 4x4 2.8 motor. Do you need to remove the cross member in order to replace the starter solenoid? If not, how do you remove the starter without removing the cross member?

Good question.
Book time is 1.9 hrs to R&R starter.
Have a look and see.
If it is in the road you will have to remove or move it out of the road.
And do not forget to unhook battery first.
Check the starter good when you have it off.
If anything else is bad besides solenoid replace the complete starter while you are at it.

i just replaced the starter on my blazer. I also have an 88 s10 4x4 with the 2.8. I had to remove the torsion bars in order to get the cross member out. i tried to take out the cross member before that, and it wasn't happening. i also made my life a bit easier and removed the inner fender on the passenger side to make getting to the wires of the starter a little easier, not sure about all of them but it didnt have much slack in the wires, or room to work. my truck has 70k original miles and the starter was the original from the factory, as are much of the parts, except for the mods i have done. i hope this helps a little.

I replaced the starter on my old blazer sooooooo man times. found the best way is to take off the passenger front wheel and tackle it from there. you don't need to remove the cross member, just wiggle and jiggle the hell out of the starter. i found the best way is to tip the front end up after removing the bolts and try to push it a little into the small open space in front of the starter, then tip the back end(part the connects to the tranny) down to drop it roght out. getting it back in is the reverse of installation!! lol

it's so much easier if you take the wheel out of the equation. and i could reach the wires before i took out the starter to take them off.
