2001 Lesabre Rack-and-Pinion question
Replaced some front-end components at 112K. Struts, left and right tie-rod ends, rear shocks. CV-shaft on one side.
I took notice of a clunking sound when stopped/in-gear and rocking the steering wheel back and forth. I'm wondering if this sounds like one of the following: 1. Rack-and-pinion mounting bushings 2. Rack-and-pinion unit 3. Inner tie rods 4. Other suggestions ? Thanks |

Re: 2001 Lesabre Rack-and-Pinion question
I had the same problem with my Lucerne (replaced the LeSabre) and it was Item #2. The dealer first replaced the intermediate steering shaft, and then determined it was the rack & pinion unit. Mine was noisy when stopped either in gear or not. Anyway that fixed it in my case..

Not a clue, Chris. The car is still under warranty thank the gods. Today it goes in for two new struts (warranty again) Stay away from Lucernes, boys and girls.
