Massive Coolant Loss

I've got a 94 K2500 5.7 w/a 140K. About two weeks ago noticed the temp was rising over where it usually rested. Once it got up to about 3/4 the way to the red, pulled over let it cool and nursed it back home. It did this once again but barely got over 240 before it dropped back down to around 190. Searched around on AF and realized I probably had some air in the cooling system. Let the engine get up to temp and then let it cool, topped off coolant in radiator and reservoir and it seemed to do the trick. Everything ran great for the past week. However, tonight when I got home after driving back from town (about 5 miles) the temp went back up to just over 240. When I parked steam was pouring out of the hood and coolant seemed to be literally pouring out of the back of the engine. Looked all over in the dark and the leak definitely seems to be coming out of the back. Most of the coolant coming down near the passenger side of the touque converter shroud. Checked the oil and everything seems to be good. No froth, bubbles or burnt coolant smell on dipstick.

Any idea where the leak might be?

Is there anyway I can get it back drivable to get it to the mechanics?

leaking or partially broken heater hose quick connect fitting. It threads into the intake manifold on the passenger side. When the leak coolant runs along the intake and leaks down the backside of the motor. Worth a quick check.

I put out a warning a few months back on those heater hose quick disconnect fittings:

In short they're cheap zinc pieces that corrode away from the inside out. If yours has broken off, have fun fishing out the pieces that have fallen in. I found pieces in the water pump and the heater core (I cut the old one open when I replaced it along with the radiator for other reasons) and did a thorough flush. Hope this helps!
