1G and 2G knock sensor question???

Hello guys,

Since the knock sensor on my 1g GSX is dead, I was wondering if a sensor from 2G will do me well. I read about it, realized they are different and the 2G sensor are more sensitive to knock.
Do I need to do any additional mods, or I can just plug it in.
I am going to tune with SAFC II and a logger, is it going to affect it?

Re: 1G and 2G knock sensor question???

Thanks,
I was wondering, because I found a thread, they were saying that 2G knock sensor is better when you tune for no knock....

The only sensor I found in the junkyards here is from 2G.
Turbo DSM's are very very rare here in Europe and the parts for them cost fortune.

Thanks for the link, I'll probably order it from there.

Re: 1G and 2G knock sensor question???

no prob buddy you must own a nice exotic compared to those other euro cars haha.

the 2g sensors are a little more sensitive but they are also prone to picking up some engine noise and reading it as phantom knock. There's not a whole lot you can do about it either.

WTF are you on? Tuning for no knock IS fvcking tuning.

Buying parts for USDM cars is hard for Europeans, not to mention these cars are about 20yrs old now.

Re: 1G and 2G knock sensor question???

If it doesn't knock a little, you aren't advancing the timing enough. And i'm not talking about the amount of knock that it takes for you to hear, i'm talking the amount it takes for the computer to retard timing. The knock sensor should keep you from going too far. If it's too sensitive it will retard the timing too much, too often and you will be screwing yourself.
