ignition switch---2000 buick regal

about how much does an ignition switch cost for a 2000 buick regal ls? are they hard to install? my air cuts off sometimes and the cruise wont work at the same time either. if i wiggle the switch or turn it off and back on then it works. sometimes if i turn the key like im trying to start it again while its running then it will work also. then the cruise works too. the cruie wont work as long as the air isnt blowing. thanks

I replaced mine twice and the price is about 130. They are not hard just time consuming. If you have done it before you know what your getting into. If not you must take your timel

See link below located at the Pontiac Grand Prix forum. Same procedure for the '97-'04 Regal.

Try http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ for better prices.

The key would come with the ignition lock cylinder.
The ignition switch is a different part.

The labor is too much and bogus on the actual hours to do the R&R. I've done it DIY in no more than 90 minutes total time. If you have an Autozone they carry an aftermarket direct fit ignition switch under the Duralast name. Around $99.00. Part number LS927.

How DIY capable are you? Thats the only real way to save money based on your circumstances.

Re: ignition switch---2000 buick regal

I just did one on a 98 Regal last fall. You may need a Lisle 27490 socket for the E4 screws you have to remove. Also if you have a remote start (aftermarket) on your car you better be fairly confident in your wiring skills etc depending on how they installed it. I bought our switch at O'Reillys for $99, working ok so far. If you have done a couple it shouldn't be too hard, getting the steering wheel covers off and getting down under the dash are the hardest part. If you are brand new it could easily take you 3 hours. Like BNaylor said, how competant are you with repairs?

I bought a used one at the junk yard for about $20 (at Autozone an exactly the same switch is about $90), and replaced it on my 98 Regal LS in less than 2 hours, following the instructions given somewhere here on Automotiveforums, by BNaylor, here is the exact link:

got it done finally. my brother in law came in from the mountains and fixed it for us. it works great. the old one had been tampered with and 2 wires had been taped back together. evidently they had rubbed together and was shorting it out because they were both naked when he took it out. he works at a auto re-cycling place [ junk yard]. took him about an hour and a half. again thanks for all the info.

Next time you need a part do a really good search online for cheaper prices. I usually order from chevy parts but not always. Also check the local junkyard if you have one near you.
