wiring help needed
I have a '97 Tahoe, which developed a jammed 4way flasher button. I've accessed the steering colum and it appears that the switch is buried among a bunch of other components. Not wanting to tackle such a project, what I would like to do is just mount a remote switch somewhere and jumper into the existing switch wiring further down under the dash. Can anyone tell me what two color wires go to the emergency flasher switch? I haven't been able to locate a wiring diagram over the internet. Thank's

I would call around to the local scrap yards to see if they have a vehicle that you can hach out this switch so that you can install in your vehicle...some have also had this problem.. |

Re: wiring help needed
I considered doing that until I got the covers off the steering colum and saw what was underneath. From what I can tell, you have to disassemble everything on that colum because the hazard switch is right smack in the middle. Besides, with my luck I'd louse something else up and end up with more problems.

Re: wiring help needed
NOTE. This info is from a '98 2nd edition service manual and your '97 may be different.
With that thought in mind, the HAZ switch is powered by an ORANGE wire from the STOP/HAZ fuse. From the other side of the HAZ switch is a GRAY wire going to the Turn/Hazard Flasher. Good Luck.

Re: wiring help needed
So is the switch stuck in the off position, if it isn't a remote switch isn't a good fix. Even if it is stuck in the off position the remote switch may not function exactly the same

Re: wiring help needed
Thank's stickman. I'll check out those wires to see if there the same on my '97. The switch is stuck in the off position, and I can't see where bypassing with an aux. switch will cause any problems.

Re: wiring help needed
You cannot install a remote switch, the hazard switch is a 4-6 (depending on the vehicle and options) pole switch internal to the multifunction switch. That means you would need 4-6 remote switches, and because they are internal to the multifunction switch, they would all have to be connected to the multifunction switch anyway for the turn signals to work correctly. Do yourself a favor and just do the repair the right way, or have someone else do it the right way.
