1998 Mits. Eclipse RS Turn Signal Stays On

Hi there, please help me. Tonight, I turned on my left turn signal, and it won't go off. It just blinks like normal, but it won't turn off at all. The only way it goes off is to turn the car off. The right side won't come on at all, its like the left turn signal is just stuck to on. It blinks, lights up, and the green arrow in the car flashes. How do I fix this? Please, help me.

Welcome to AF!

When you turn the car off and back on does the turn signal still flash? Or do you have to turn it on first and then it wont go off. Its either going to be the turn signal box under the dash or the lever assembly. I would probably replace the turn signal box first and see if that fixes your problem.

Re: 1998 Mits. Eclipse RS Turn Signal Stays On

Real quick, my GS has the same issue. My left turn signal wont go off. I removed my turn signal switch, and it ends up that my pin broke off. So I had to go get a new switch. Now it works fine.

Hope this helped:-)

Re: 1998 Mits. Eclipse RS Turn Signal Stays On

I've had this problem before and know exactly what it is, down to a science lol.

It's the turn signal switch. If you've got some extra time on your hands you can fix it yourself. You have to take out the switch and tear the switch mechanism apart. There is a slider inside with two metal contact, and a plastic pin that slides the slider from left to right, or center (off). It's the plastic pin that breaks. If you're like me and can come up with a good plan to fix it yourself and like light fabrication, clean all of the contact, get rid of the broken plastic pin. Look at where the plastic pin broke from. Take a small nail (as close of a size as to the plastic pin), torch the end of it (the pointy side), jam it straight into the place where the plastic pin used to be. It will melt through the plastic and kind of fuse itself to the plastic when it cools.

Sounds kind of odd, but once you get the switch apart you'll have a better understanding of what to do.

Hope this helps.

Steve
