97 taurus trans problem ?

I drove my taurus in the morning came back parked with no problems. 1 hour later i drive two blocks to go up a hill and it would not go anywere it would rev up.i reversed back put it in drive and it stated going. Sometimes it would slip i put it in neutral then drive and it would go.after i parked it at home i checked the fluid and everything was fine.but when i went to move it it would here a loud binding noise in forward or reverse.could it be the tranny on the way out or a axle problem.

You might try changing the transmission filter and ATF. Bad ATF may cause the transmission to malfunction. If the ATF has never been changed, then you may have to rebuild the transmission.
