valve noise

I have a 2002 Durango SXT 4.7L. I bought this truck new and always had the oil changed by the dealer every 3,000 miles. When I first start the truck up in the morning I hear what I think is lifter noise. It goes away when the motor warms up. Is this a problem that will get worse? Any thoughts would help

Re: valve noise

It could be a valve seat coming out of the cylinder head,a very common problem with the 4.7 and the cylinder head is junk right away.Do a compression test on each cylinder to find which one before getting tore down.

98SableGS,

I hear that all the time on my 2001 Druango SLT 4.7 V-8 engine! No big deal as it's just the engine pumping oil to lube the insides as it's warming up. It goes away after a minute. Just make sure the dealership knows about it. Mine does and no indications that it's bad. Just make sure you use the correct oil by looking it up in the manuel.

Re: valve noise

my 2002 does the same thing---I add an oil additive at each oil change--marvel mystery oil or Lucas.
the noise does go waway after it warms up to.

Re: valve noise

I changed my oil and put in 5w30 Mobile 1 Truck&SUV Synthetic, and as soon as I did I also got the same noise. had never had it before. I went back to standard mobile1 synthetic and the noise went away...
