tint removal w/ rear defrost

General question that would effect any vehicle. Mine just happens to be a 1995 Eclipse. The tint is really old, discolored, bubbled and flaky. It will not peel off at all and basically just little pieces chip off when I try and the glue is hard and brittle also.

My question is.....does anyone know of a way to get the tint off without ruining the rear defrost lines? Razor blade scraping is out, it would take my rear defrost right off.

are you using about a 4inch blade in a tool you might say its a scraper?

I believe tint shops use some kind of chemical and maybe a heat gun to remove old tint. I would take it someone if I was you just to be safe. I have taken fairly new tint off and it was a PITA. Old tint would be even worse.

I cant use a scraper without having it take off my defrost lines as well. I was just curious if anyone knew of a chemical I could buy that would make the old tint and glue come right off.

Don't dick with it. The rear is the worst to remove when you're dealing with defrosters. I'd say take it to shop and let them take the rear one off. The others are fairly easy, just cut large lines, kinda like squares. Peel each spuare evenly so that way if the film wants to rip, it doesn't rip in a large area.

I think i'll take JoeShmoe's advice and let a pro deal with it. I appriciate everyone's input.....I was just trying to save a buck.

take it to a place around you and see what they will take it off for you. like we got lafayette glass that dose that kind of stuff.
