Question 4 quart oil change?

Hi all. I had my oil changed by Kwik Lube last time. I checked the level the next morning and it was a quart above full. So, I thought that they had put 5 quarts in instead of 4. Yesterday I changed it myself. Drained the pan and put the plug back in. I put in 4 quarts. I started it up then shut it down. I checked the oil level and it was a quart above full, again! Has anyone else had a problem like this? Do I need to let it drain and drip for a while or should I just put 3 quarts back in. It's the darndest thing!

Re: 4 quart oil change?

Yes. I put a new filter on. It's got 28,000 miles on it and is a 05. Would an engine this new have plugged return holes. It's had the oil changed every 3000 miles. It runs good and doesn't seem to be blowing any oil out either through the seals or out the tailpipe. I'm wondering if it is a quart too high or whether or not the dipstick is not accurate? Well, I gotta trust the dipstick. I'm just gonna let it drain for about an hour next time. Thanks for the help.

Re: 4 quart oil change?

Check your manual foreign engines usually are in liters not quarts. You may only need 3 1/2 quarts. When certain make a new mark on the dip stick for reference.

Check for 3 1/2 quarts. Mark on dipstick. Thanks rhandwor. I appreciate your suggestions. I will see how much comes out next time.

Re: 4 quart oil change?

A 3 liter capacity engine will need 3.1668 quarts. Just use yahoo search for liters to quarts. Type in capacity in liter it will calculate it for you. I think this is the problem area.
